I’m aware that we sell in a highly saturated market. Etsy has millions upon millions of sellers now and you, as a consumer, have so many options where you should spend your hard earned money. So, today I’m here to tell you WHY you should buy The Ghost Generation Bath Bombs over the competition.
Before we started making bath and skincare products my number one research topic was how to make products for sensitive skin. Ever since I was little, I’ve had patches of eczema, rashes that came out of nowhere, dry patches on my legs and I’ve had to be extremely careful with what I used on my body. Unfortunately my son is the same, and so of course I wanted to make sure that anything I made wouldn’t make our situation worse. After researching what felt like hundreds of bath bomb recipes (and lots of test runs), I went with the following formula:
Baking Soda, Citric Acid, Corn Starch – all standards that are found in most bath bomb recipes and all ingredients you can get that are USDA organic, 100% natural, gluten-free, etc.
Epsom salts – this is a BIG one. Let’s face it, everyone put on the “Pandemic 15”. Now that we see a light at the end of the tunnel with vaccinations I know I’m busting my ass to lose it. However, working out when you haven’t done it in ages makes you HURT LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER the next day. This is where Epsom salts come in: it helps relax muscles and relieve pain in the shoulders, neck, back and skull. By relaxing the muscles surrounding the skull, the magnesium in Epsom salt may help release a headache or migraine. Some researchers also think that magnesium is good for reducing inflammation in internal organs. This may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and improve digestion/bowel movement. Integrative medical experts commonly recommend Epsom salt to patients with chronic fatigue syndrome and cold intolerance. ALL GOOD THINGS!
Phthalate-free fragrance oils and/or essential oils – Phthalates/plasticizers are a group of chemicals that are used to make plastics more flexible and durable. In testing, they have been found to affect the reproductive system of animals. Although there have been no concrete testing in humans I didn’t want to include plastics in our bath bombs or be responsible for screwing up our customers’ reproductive system. Plus, testing on animals? No thanks.
Sweet Almond Oil – Full of vitamin A and E and anti-oxidants, this all-rounder carrier oil also fights inflammation and boosts immunity. It also treats skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, helps heal sun damage, reduces the signs of aging and helps fade scars. It’s also quick-absorbing which means you don’t have a sheen in your bath tub or on your skin that just won’t absorb.
Polysorbate 80 and water-soluble dyes – Polysorbate 80 is a 100% vegan compound that is an emulsifier derived from oleic acid/vegetable oil. This liquid stops the colorful dyes we use from staining your tub because the LAST thing I want to do after a relaxing bath is housework. It’s also used in ice cream to make it easier to scoop so if that’s the case it’s a fine ingredient in my book. The dyes we use have all been approved by the FDA, have lot numbers and are all approved for bath bomb use. Click here to be redirected to the FDA chart (scroll down to the second one) that shows all of our dyes that we use and which uses they are permitted for.
Biodegradable Glitter – I don’t add this in all of our bath bombs because some people just don’t like looking like they stepped out of The Glitter Factory (see: Parks and Rec). However, to keep with our theme of being good to your body and the environment, I found a company that “offers only eco-friendly and biodegradable glitter. None of our glitters contains plastic polyethylene terephthalate (PET)”. Again with that no plastic thing.
That’s it. Next time you’re in your bathroom, pick up any of your lotions or body washes and look at the ingredient list. Can you pronounce most of those listed? Are you aware of how much plastic you’re applying to your body? Does it start to enter your brain that some of those ingredients could be cancer-causing? It’s absolutely crazy how little regulation there is in the cosmetics industry and how we just blindly buy items and trust that a big company will look out for us. Just remember that it’s only been recently that Johnson & Johnson got busted for their talcum powder causing ovarian cancer and people had been using that for DECADES.
Our goal with each and every one of our products is to make sure that they are safe for you to use. We want you to have fun with bath/shower time sure, but it’s our social obligation to sell you products that won’t screw your health up down the road. So, this is why you should buy The Ghost Generation Bath Bombs. Because we give a shit about you.
